My Money BuddyPrivacy policy

My Money Buddy ("the app", "we") is made by Indiepop AI, a business registered in India. This policy explains what the app collects, why, where it goes and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, write to mymoneybuddy@indiepopai.com.
The short version
- Your transactions, budgets and splits are saved in a Google Sheet in your own Google Drive.
- To fill in the details, the messages and statements you add are read on our servers, with the help of Google's AI.
- We never ask for your bank login, we never sell your data, and we don't show ads.
- You can delete your account at any time, and remove the app's access to your Google account.
1. Your account
When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and, for Google, your profile picture. We keep your email address, your trial and Premium status, and which Google Sheet is yours.
2. Your Google Sheet
With your permission, the app creates a Google Sheet in your Google Drive and reads and writes it to show your dashboard. It asks only for access to the files it creates or that you open with it (Google's drive.file and spreadsheets permissions); it can't see the rest of your Drive. To keep the sheet up to date, our servers keep a sign-in token from Google, which you can revoke at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. We never see or keep your Google password.
My Money Buddy's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
3. Messages and files you add
The app reads the text of bank messages and receipts so it can fill in an entry for you to check. A message reaches us when:
- you paste or type it into the app, or share it to the app;
- on iPhone, you set up our Shortcut, which sends the messages your automation passes to it;
- on Android, you turn on message capture: the app looks at notifications from your messages app and sends only the ones that look like bank or payment messages. You can turn this off in the app's settings or in Android's notification access settings at any time;
- you import a bank statement (PDF, CSV or Excel).
The text is read by our servers and by Google's Gemini AI service, which works out the amount, merchant, category, account and date. Messages waiting for you to check are kept on our servers for up to 7 days, then deleted. Once you save an entry, it goes to your Google Sheet.
4. Weekly insights
If you use weekly insights, our servers read your recent transactions from your Google Sheet and send a summary of them to Google's Gemini AI service to write your weekly note. The note is saved in your sheet.
5. Splitting with friends
When you split an expense, we use the email addresses of the friends you choose to put their share in their own sheet, if they use My Money Buddy. If a friend's sheet can't be reached yet, their share waits on our servers for up to 30 days.
6. Usage statistics
To understand how the app is used and to fix problems, we record a small number of events, such as signing in, connecting your sheet, saving an entry (only how many, never the amount or merchant) and errors. These go to PostHog, an analytics service, on its servers in the European Union. We don't record your screen or what you type.
7. Payments
Premium is bought through the App Store or Google Play. RevenueCat, our subscription service, tells the app whether you have Premium. We never receive your card details.
8. Who else handles your data
Only the services that run the app, and only to run it:
- Google: Google Cloud and Firebase (our servers and account records), Gemini (reading messages and writing insights), Google Drive and Sheets (your sheet), Google sign-in.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple and the App Store.
- PostHog: usage statistics.
- RevenueCat: subscription status.
We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
9. How long we keep things
- Your account details: until you delete your account.
- Messages waiting to be checked: up to 7 days. Split shares waiting for a friend's sheet: up to 30 days.
- Server logs, which can include your email address: up to 30 days.
- Your Google Sheet: it's in your Drive, so it stays until you delete it.
10. Your choices
- Delete your account: see how to delete your account.
- Remove Google access: at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Stop automatic capture: turn off message capture on Android, or remove the Shortcut automation on iPhone.
- Ask what we hold, or ask us to correct it: write to mymoneybuddy@indiepopai.com.
11. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your phone locked and your Google account protected.
12. Children
My Money Buddy isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
13. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is important.
